Ánnámáret & Ilkka Heinonen
Ánnámáret & Ilkka Heinonen is a Sámi-rooted duo bringing together Sámi yoik and the Karelian bowed lyre, jouhikko. Sámi musician and yoiker Ánnámáret draws deeply from her cultural heritage and North Sámi tradition, while Finnish musician Ilkka Heinonen brings the resonant sound of the jouhikko. Together, they create contemporary music grounded in Sámi tradition and dialogue between cultures.
Ánnámáret is a Sámi musician, and yoiker based in Nuorgam, Sápmi in Finland. Her music draws inspiration from the Arctic nature of Sápmi, Sámi culture, and the yoik traditions of her family and ancestors. Known for her distinctive voice and expressive interpretation of yoik, Ánnámáret combines traditional Sámi musical heritage with contemporary soundscapes.
Ilkka Heinonen is a musician and composer, who specialises in folk music. His instruments include the Finnish bowed lyre, G-violone and the contrabass. In addition to bands that have gained influence from European folk music cultures, Heinonen has worked as both a solo artist and in an orchestra, in concerts and in projects of modern and traditional music.
